Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Craft Extract Systems

A: Absolutely. Our systems are made to grow with you, and that includes helping you start your concentrate journey. Our Single Vessel is the perfect starting point for anyone who wants to test the waters and find their local market fit.

Q: I'm not currently making concentrate. Can I use this to test the market?

A: Buckets are a common way to start making concentrate if you are only making it for your own use. Once you start to try selling coffee concentrate the manual labor and low volume output of a bucket system creates a ton of issues. Our Single Vessel allows you to make as little as 7 gallons of 8%+ concentrate all the way up to 1,160 gallons per month. So you can grow inside the same system.

Q: I'm currently using buckets. How does this compare?

A: Cold brew concentrate is extracted at room temperature - some systems work in 30 minutes, others take 12-15 hours. This process produces concentrate typically around 5% TDS that works well for cold coffee applications.

Our hot extract concentrate is made at 200°F in about an hour, producing 8%+ TDS. This higher concentration means every gallon of hot extract yields significantly more ready-to-drink product than cold brew concentrate - stretching your coffee investment further.

But the real advantage is versatility. Hot extract captures the complete flavor profile of your coffee, making it perfect for hot coffee service in restaurants and cafés, culinary applications like coffee-infused desserts and sauces, cocktails (especially espresso martinis), and yes - it even makes excellent cold brew when diluted and chilled. One concentrate, unlimited applications.

Cold brew concentrate does one thing well. Hot extract does everything.

Q: What's the difference between cold brewed concentrate and your hot concentrate?

A: Yes. All packages use identical extraction units. Start with Package 1 (single unit) and add units as your demand grows. You're never replacing equipment - just adding capacity. No need to over-invest before you've proven demand.

Q: Can I start small and expand later?

A: Run fewer days per week or fewer cycles per day. The system is completely flexible - you control production based on your current needs. Many customers start with 3-4 days per week while building their customer base.

Q: What if I don't need the full monthly capacity right away?

A: Yes. Our standard extraction profile produces 7.25 gallons per cycle at 8% TDS (40 minute extraction time). This provides maximum market flexibility - you can sell as concentrate to restaurants/bars, dilute for RTD cold brew, or use for hot coffee applications.

For concentrated shipping: Stopping extraction earlier yields approximately 6.25 gallons per cycle at 10%+ TDS (34 minutes). This strategy:

  • Reduces cycle time by 15%

  • Increases concentration by 25%

  • Improves shipping economics (higher value per gallon)

  • Maintains quality (customers dilute to preference)

For high-volume operations (Package 2/3): The 6-minute time savings per cycle allows fitting 2-3 additional cycles per day, or finishing production 1.6-2.4 hours earlier.

Q: Can I optimize for concentration instead of volume?

A: For Complete Electric systems: 240V electrical (similar to commercial espresso machines) and a collection vessel.

For Components-only: 120V, you provide the heat source (commercial range, propane burner, etc.) and we provide all extraction components.

Q: What utilities do I need?

A: Quick-Release Vessel only measures 24" x 30". If you order a package, the 2 tank system measures 42" x 36" and is independent of the Quick-Release Vessel.

Q: How much space does it require?

A: No special permits are required. This is food-grade extraction equipment using standard commercial utilities. Check with your local health department about any facility requirements for concentrate production, but the equipment itself requires no special licensing.

Q: Do I need special permits or certifications?

A: If you can make coffee, you can run this system. The process is straightforward: mix coffee with hot water for pre-soak, load into the extraction spool, tamp the bed down (just like you would an espresso shot) and start adding water. Concentrate flows directly into your final vessel. Our proven extraction protocols ensure you hit 8%+ TDS consistently.

Q: How difficult is it to operate?

A: One operator can manage the entire system. The one caveat is for Package 3 you will need the beans ground already or have an additional operator do that process.

Q: How many staff do I need?

A: That's optional hybrid operation. If you have overnight facility access, you can set up cold brew extraction before leaving (30 minutes) and harvest it the next morning (30 minutes) while your pot heats up. This adds 20-26% more monthly capacity for just 1 additional hour of daily labor. But you can also run hot-only mode if overnight access isn't available.

Q: What about overnight cold brew production?

A: Our quick-release mechanism eliminates lifting 30+ pounds of hot, wet spent grounds. Instead of manually hoisting and dumping, you release a latch and gravity does the work. No risk of burns, herniated discs, or injury from handling heavy loads at temperature.

Q: What makes this safer than other extraction methods?

A: Every system includes complete setup documentation, proven extraction protocols (water ratios, pre-soak timing, temperature specs), and operator workflow training. We provide ongoing support to ensure you're consistently hitting 8% TDS and maximizing production efficiency.

Q: What training and support do you provide?

A: 90-day warranty on all components, plus ongoing support. We're here to make sure your system performs as promised.

Q: What's the warranty?

A: See Packages page for info

Q: What's included in each package?
